On July 16, the American Meteorological Society미국기상학회 released the 2014 State of Climate online report. These findings were compiled by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration미국국립해양대기청 and contain the analyses of 413 researchers from 58 countries regarding the changes on Earth. The researchers have observed environmental changes in temperature, volume of sea levels, and salt in the oceans. According to the report, the greenhouse gas emissions were the highest last year, and the Earth’s temperature was recorded as the warmest in the history of its 135-year-old weather survey.

After the report was published, Peter Turkson, a cardinal in the Roman Catholic Church, emphasized the importance of stopping global warming, which is in accordance with Pope Francis’s public stance on climate change. Turkson said, “The climate is a common good…but…if present trends continue, this century may well witness extraordinary climate change and an unprecedented destruction of ecosystems.” In addition, the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference will be in November. The conference aims to regulate global greenhouse gas emission.

If global warming continues, abnormal climate changes will be more common. The growth of crops is also affected, which may threaten the Earth’s ecosystem. Actions to reduce greenhouse emissions and save the environment are necessary priorities.
